Having received this email, I wanted to talk about how I’ve found recently that cuts seem to be coming at us all at different speeds. Where some people are being granted more money for development, other people (like myself a member of Cilip, but also in my place of employment) are suffering (possibly over dramatic) the impacts of cost cutting exercises. I do believe Annie has had to make an extremely tough decision here, but note the word ‘suspended’ and not ‘axed’. And there is still a lot to gain from Cilip despite this set back. The specialist groups offer information and support, and opportunities for development, there is also still the provision of ACLIP and Chartership to those who are eligible. All of this will continue to provide a support system to those interested in building a personal development portfolio within information management.
So how about time for some more positive advocacy. Join Cilip (please see website for full information) for all the benefits of membership which do include:

An important message for our ebulletin subscribers
From 1 July 2011 CILIP’s Training & Development course programme is being suspended until further notice. The move follows a major review of all CILIP’s activities and is part of a series of changes the Institute is making to its focus of operations as part of a major restructure programme. CILIP’s CEO Annie Mauger says: “We have had to take some difficult decisions about the immediate future of our commercial training provision”.
However, we will continue to offer a range of training and personal development events delivered via our onsite training programme, Executive Briefings, conferences…plus courses and networking events organised by CILIP’s Special Interest Groups and regional Branches.
May we take this opportunity to thank all our ebulletin subscribers and course participants who have attended our training courses over the past 22 years at The Library Association as it was, and now as CILIP. It has been wonderful.
With our final best wishes
